Criteria
Potential candidates must:
- Have been a BBTS member for a minimum of 2 years
- Be willing to attend three council meetings per year
- Be willing to chair or contribute to one of the Society's committees or represent the Society on an external group / body
- Be available to serve a three year term of office.
You must not act as a trustee of you are disqualified under the Charities Act. This includes if you:
- are disqualified as a company director
- have an unspent conviction for an offence involving dishonesty or deception (such as fraud)
- are an undischarged bankrupt (or subject to sequestration in Scotland), or have a current composition or arrangement including an individual voluntary agreement (IVA) with your creditors
- have been removed as a trustee of any charity by the commission (or the court) because of misconduct or mismanagement
Key responsibilities
- To contribute actively to the role in giving firm, strategic direction to the society, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets, including evaluating performance against agreed targets
- To ensure that the society complies with its governing documents, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations To ensure that the society pursues its objectives
- To play an active role in the BBTS Council by scrutinising board paper, contributing to and leading discussions, and providing guidance on issues where your experience and skills will be of benefit to the society.
