Geoff Poole - PAEC Chair

As well as serving on council Geoff chairs the Professional Affairs & Education Committee (PAEC). He is also part of the Executive Working Group which makes day to day decisions for the society. 

Geoff was appointed as PAEC chair in September 2008.Geoff entered the profession in 1974 as a trainee BMS in Brentwood Blood Centre. He studied for FIBMS at the London Hospital. Appointed as Senior BMS in Bristol Centre in 1979, he undertook MSc research degree in the University of Bath. He was then appointed to Principal Scientist and to Zonal and National Immunohaematology manager in successive NBS reorganisations.

Geoff retired from his role as Director of the Welsh Blood Service toward the end of 2013 and has recently completed a professional doctorate.Geoff is a founder member of the BBTS and previously editor of the BBTS newsletter, chair of Blood Bank Technology Special Interest Group and of BBTS SMAC. A former IBMS examiner and also has committee roles in NEQAS, BCSH Blood Transfusion Task Force and the UKBTS/NIBSC SAC in Immunohaematology.
