Who We Are

Danny Gaskin

Danny is a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist trained in laboratory haematology and blood transfusion. Currently, he is employed as a Patient Blood Management Practitioner at NHS Blood and Transplant. He has a successful track record of leading blood transfusion and pathology services, with experience in both the NHS and the independent sector.

Danny's career in the NHS began in 2008 in primary care administration and clinical governance. Danny initially pursued a BSc in Adult Nursing, however, in 2014,he retrained as a Biomedical Scientist.

Danny sits on the British Blood Transfusion Society (BBTS) council and is a Fellow of the society. He sits on the Society’s Transfusion Practitioner Special Interest Group, Communications Committee and Annual Conference Committee, and supports the National, Regional, and Hospital Blood Transfusion Committees in England, in addition to sitting on several UK wide groups.

Danny is a Lecturer in Biomedical Science at the University of Salford and Module Lead on the BBTS Specialist Certificate in Clinical Transfusion Practice. He provides mentorship to biomedical scientists and students through mentorship schemes at several UK universities. He is the current Editor of CPD News (Bloodlines).

In 2022,Danny received the Academy for Healthcare Science Award for Inspiring the Healthcare Science Workforce of the Future. During the same year, he was presented with the Bill Chaffe Unsung Hero Award at the BBTS Annual Conference.
