Who We Are

Jenny White - Chair of PAEC Committee

Since September 2014 has chaired the Professional Affairs & Education Committee (PAEC), and she is also a member of BBTS Council and part of the Executive Working Group which makes day to day decisions for the society.

In 1977 Jenny took a ‘gap year’ job at NBS Southampton which turned unexpectedly into a career in blood transfusion. After leaving the blood service in the early 80s with an FIBMS and a passion for transfusion she worked in several London hospitals, latterly as a transfusion laboratory manager, before moving to UK NEQAS in 1997. Jenny’s current post has given her a great opportunity to get involved in many different aspects of transfusion medicine in the UK and overseas. She is a member of the BCSH Transfusion Task force and has been involved in writing BCSH guidelines for FMH, anti-D prophylaxis, IT in blood transfusion, and antenatal testing. Through collaboration with the World Health Organisation and other agencies she has organised training workshops in developing countries, covering blood group serology, quality management systems and EQA.

Immunohaematology and education are Jenny’s main professional interests, and she has combined these in previous roles, such as IBMS Chief Examiner for transfusion science, and currently as a contributor to the development of Modernising Scientific Careers HSST curriculum and assessments. Jenny believes that specialist education and training for all involved in blood transfusion are vital to ensure safe outcomes, and she aims to work through PAEC to expand the educational opportunities offered by the BBTS for members from all professional backgrounds.
