Associate Practitioner, Component Development, Welsh Blood Service
Ellie Delahay is an Associate Practitioner at the Welsh Blood Service, working in the Component Development and Research department. She joined the organisation following completion of her MSc in Biomedical Science (Immunohaematology) at Cardiff Metropolitan University. As part of her MSc, Ellie completed a research project investigating red blood cell–derived extracellular vesicles. This work was recognised with the Margaret Kenwright Award at the 2025 BBTS Annual Conference, marking a significant milestone in her early research career. Following her award, Ellie was invited to join the BBTS Early Career Professionals committee, an opportunity she readily accepted. While she feels well supported within her current role, Ellie recognises that not all junior staff share this experience. She is keen to advocate for and support early career professionals in transfusion science, with a particular focus on promoting visibility, access to opportunities and support for those embarking on research careers.
