Consultant Clinical Scientist, RCI, NHSBT.
Sara Wright is a Consultant Clinical Scientist at NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), specialising in red cell immunohaematology and the management of complex transfusion cases. Her career in transfusion science has progressed from hands-on laboratory practice as a Biomedical Scientist to a national Consultant Clinical Scientist role within Red Cell Immunohaematology (RCI), where she supports complex clinical cases and leads service improvements.
Alongside her clinical work, Sara has held several national leadership roles, including NEQAS SAG Chair and Clinical Scientist Exit Examination Lead Assessor, and has co‑authored national audits aimed at improving transfusion practice. She has developed a strong interest in education, leadership, and collaboration, and was honoured to receive the Margaret Kenwright Award in 2025. Looking ahead, Sara is keen to continue developing into a senior leadership role with wider organisational impact, enabling her to further influence transfusion education and the development of the scientific and medical workforce.
