IBTS - Leading Lights Seminar Series re-launched
Wednesday, 8th February 2023 at 14:00 (GMT)The Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) are delighted to announce the re-launch of the IBTS Leading Lights Seminar Series.
Prof. Athanasios Mantalaris will join IBTS on February 8th at 14:00
(GMT) in the National Blood Centre to discuss his innovative and
ground-breaking research on red cell culture methodology (laboratory
grown red blood cells). Prof Mantalaris’s research team have
developed a system for continuous erythropoiesis and erythrocyte
harvest using a three-dimensional perfusion bone marrow biomimicry.
Laboratory grown red blood cells are currently a hot topic with the RESTORE trial seeking to evaluate the longevity of mini transfusions of laboratory cultured red blood cells in the body compared with similar amounts of standard red blood cells from the same donor.
Prof. Mantalaris has published over 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts, is co-editor of the book “Advances in Tissue Engineering” and has been appointed as the Panoz Chair of Pharmaceutical Biology, Trinity College Dublin.
