COVID-19: Message from BBTS President

Heidi Doughty

With the Government announcing plans to accelerate its response to the Coronavirus outbreak, we felt it was the right time to let you know what action we are taking.

We know many of you will remain busy implementing your own personal and professional responses to the outbreak.  We have put together some resources on COVID-19 for the transfusion community which can be found here.

For the British Blood Transfusion Society, we are doing everything we can to ensure our essential services. While our offices remain open currently, our people are now working from home wherever possible as advised by the Government. We are endeavouring to do everything we can to continue handling current assignments seamlessly as well as being available and proactive in managing upcoming work.

Following developments in the Coronavirus situation in 2020, we took the difficult decision to cancel our Annual Conference which was due to take place in Glasgow on 16-18 September 2020.

We are pleased to announce that the Annual Conference will return on-line from 13th to 15th September 2021.

As demands on the health service remain high we do not feel it is appropriate for us to run large-scale face to face events that will take transfusion professionals away from providing healthcare support and we will use on-line resources whenever possible. We will continue to offer our distance learning courses and CPD portfolio to our members.  However, we have rescheduled our exams and some of our course work which we hope will reduce the pressure on both students and staff.

We have robust processes in place to be able to sustain this way of working for as long as is necessary so we can continue to support our members in these unprecedented and challenging times.

On behalf of us all at BBTS, we continue to wish you, your families, and your organisations well at this difficult time.
