
Matt is a HCPC-registered Consultant Clinical Scientist with over 20 years of experience working in clinical, industrial and research science roles. He has advanced expertise in Transfusion Medicine, underpinned by a comprehensive e-portfolio of evidence demonstrating work at Consultant level. His academic achievements include a PhD in Biology, a DClinSci, and a Level 8 PGDip in Leadership and Management in Healthcare Science. Matt is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists, having successfully completed both FRCPath Part I and II examinations.
His extensive experience spans antibody technology, immunogen design, and medical assay development. He is also trained to LCS Level 1b in Continuous Improvement (CI) Practitioner Training and has led local and national level initiatives driving positive change within healthcare science.
Matt is a member of the BSH Transfusion Taskforce, where he collaborates with other members to develop guidelines on all matters relating to transfusion, ensuring best practice and high standards of care. He also holds a prominent role with UK NEQAS-BTLP, serving as the Scientific Chair of the UK NEQAS Feto-Maternal Haemorrhage Specialist Advisory Group.
An internationally recognised speaker and educator, Matt contributes to teaching and supervision at Doctorate, MSc, and BSc levels, as well as through his involvement with the BBTS Bloodlines Communications Committee. As an active member of the BGS Committee and the UK NEQAS-BTLP, he plays a key role in conference planning and delivery, reflecting his dedication to advancing the field of transfusion medicine and healthcare science.
