Danny GaskinDanny Gaskin is a Biomedical Scientist specialising in laboratory haematology and blood transfusion. He is Lead Specialist within the Blood Stocks Management Scheme at NHS Blood and Transplant, where he works across the healthcare system to support blood supply resilience and strengthen partnerships between the blood service and hospital transfusion services.
He has held leadership roles in blood transfusion and pathology services across both the NHS and the independent sector. Danny began his NHS career in 2008 in primary care administration and clinical governance. He initially trained in adult nursing before retraining as a Biomedical Scientist in 2014.
Danny is Honorary Secretary of the British Blood Transfusion Society (BBTS) and a Fellow of the Society. He sits on BBTS Council and has previously chaired the Communications Committee. He is also past Chair of the Transfusion Practitioner Special Interest Group, led the development of the Patient Blood Management Special Interest Group, and sits on the Professional Education and Annual Conference Committees.
He supports biomedical science education at several universities in England and mentors biomedical scientists and students through university and professional mentorship schemes.
In 2022, Danny received the Academy for Healthcare Science Award for Inspiring the Healthcare Science Workforce of the Future and the Bill Chaffe Unsung Hero Award at the BBTS Annual Conference.
