Danny is a Biomedical Scientist, specialising in laboratory haematology and blood transfusion. He currently works as a Lead Specialist within the Blood Stocks Management Scheme at NHS Blood and Transplant. He has held leadership roles in blood transfusion and pathology services across both the NHS and the independent sector.
Danny began his NHS career in 2008, working in primary care administration and clinical governance. He initially pursued a BSc in Adult Nursing but retrained as a Biomedical Scientist in 2014.
He sits on the British Blood Transfusion Society (BBTS) Council and is a Fellow of the Society. He serves as Chair of the Society’s Communications Committee and is also a member of the Transfusion Practitioner Special Interest Group and the Annual Conference Committee. In addition, he supports the National, Regional, and Hospital Blood Transfusion Committees in England and contributes to several UK-wide groups.
Danny supports biomedical science programmes at a number of universities in England and is a Module Lead on the BBTS Specialist Certificate in Clinical Transfusion Practice. He also mentors biomedical scientists and students through mentorship schemes at various UK universities.
In 2022, Danny received the Academy for Healthcare Science Award for Inspiring the Healthcare Science Workforce of the Future. That same year, he was presented with the Bill Chaffe Unsung Hero Award at the BBTS Annual Conference.
