Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session you will: have a basic understanding of stem cell science and transplantation medicine; recognise how and when transfusion is used in transplantation; understand safety concerns around donor derived organs.
Brief Description:
This session is intended for healthcare professionals with little to no knowledge of transfusion in the transplantation setting. You may be a trainee, new starter, have a general interest or just wish to brush up on the basics. We will be covering the very basics of stem cells (what they are and how we use them), transplantation medicine, how blood transfusion is used to support transplant patients and finally looking at patient safety with respect to potential infectious agents carried by the transplanted organ/ tissue.
