How remote issue can be used to ensure a safe transfusion service in a location distance from the main transfusion laboratory.
The problems associated with having a complex rule for determining if a unit of red cells is safe to use.
Potential strategies as to how to implement changes.
Brief Description:
This session will focus on the blood stock issues. The increased use of remote issue of red cells and its impact on laboratory staffing is a 'hot' topic for this session. We are also going to look at the new rules around how long red cells can be out of temperature control before they become unsuitable for use. These were released in 2016 and so far very few hospitals have chosen to implement them, consideration as to why this is the case wil be covered and will almost certainly lead to a lively discussion.
