Intended Audience:
This session will be of interest to anyone involved in hospital transfusion practice. This includes clinical staff involved in the decision to transfuse as well as those involved in setting hospital transfusion policies.  Transfusion laboratory staff play a key role in Transfusing Wisely.  

Learning Objectives: 

  1. Understand the Choosing Wisely campaign and the five transfusion-related recommendations made by the AABB in the US
  2. Learn how Choosing Wisely is being implemented in the UK and how Transfusing Wisely  can be applied to UK transfusion practice
  3. Learn about pilot initiatives in the UK where patient care has been improved by implementing the principles of patient-focused transfusion practice 

Brief Description:
This session will provide the background to the Transfusing Wisely campaign and will show how these patient-focused transfusion initiatives have been adopted across the UK.
