About the BBTS

The Society was first inaugurated in May 1983. It has been established as a company limited by guarantee and as a registered charity.

The main objective of the Society is to advance the study of all aspects of blood transfusion for the public benefit, and to promote research and development.

The Society holds an Annual Conference, one-day Special Interest Group Meetings, administers Specialist Certificate Training Packages, a supported CPD scheme and provides members with a quarterly newsletter (incorporating CDP news), a bi-monthly journal 'Transfusion Medicine', a monthly eBulletin and access to materials via the exceptional members area of the website and access to the online BBTS Forum.

The officers of the Society, the President, Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer, together with the Past President or President Elect and the elected members comprise the Council of the Society. Other aspects of the Society are managed by committees consisting of BBTS members.

The Council also holds an Annual General Meeting to discuss Society business, usually in conjunction with the Annual Scientific Meeting, and all members of the Society are entitled to attend. For details of the next Annual Scientific Meeting see the Annual Meeting link on the homepage.

Please note that the BBTS office is a seperate organisation to the national blood services and is not involved in contact with patients and/or blood products. We are unable to provide any medical advice or assistance. Please visit our links pages to find organisations that may be able to assist in these areas.
